WHO WE ARE
The Hunters purchased Snowflake Chalet in 2014 to enjoy a peaceful, mountain respite from our busy lives in the San Francisco Bay Area. We have three adult sons -- Matt, Tommy and Chris, and a daughter-in-law, Julia. We adore our Labador Retriever, Tim Riggins, and our grand-dog, Joey, who is a Blue Heeler mix. We all -- including the dogs --enjoy the outdoors and hiking the many trails in Calaveras County!
Besides hiking, our favorite things to do while we are at our cabin include kayaking on the stunning Sierra mountain lakes, cross country skiing on the groomed trails near Bear Valley, wine tasting in nearby Murphys, and enjoying the many great dining spots in the area -- from the awesome Sarafina's Italian Kitchen just down the street to the fun Lube Room, a popular mountain pub in Dorrington, near Calaveras Big Trees State Park.
Below are photos of some of our favorite cabin memories, enjoyed with family and friends!
Our cabin is well-built, and cozy, with all the amenities needed for comfort during a winter or summer stay. Originally built in 1987, we are only the second owners of this special home and we completed a renovation in 2015, including new paint, new decor, all new flooring and the addition of central air conditioning. We are located in the Blue Lake Springs neighborhood just east of Arnold in the Sierra Mountains.
Our cabin is at about 4,000 feet elevation and is conveniently situated just across the street from the Blue Lake Springs Recreation Center, which includes a swimming pool, a lake with a sandy beach, tennis and basketball courts and a children's play area. The Recreation Center includes a full-service restaurant open on Friday and Saturday evenings, and free outdoor movies on Saturday nights in the summer. Usage fees apply; please check with Blue Lake Springs Recreation Center for a current fee schedule.
The deck at our cabin features comfortable patio furniture and a large outdoor dining table for family dinners. The new kitchen range and gas grill make it easy to cook meals, but if you are ready for a night out, Arnold offers a variety of dining options just down the road, and nearby Murphy's offers a multitude of wine tasting rooms and restaurants.
We have created a cozy atmosphere with plenty of space for a multi-family vacation, family reunion or weekend-getaway. Amenities include a pine-decorated master suite with a large bathroom and soaking tub, two additional bedrooms, a roomy outdoor deck with new farmhouse table under the pine trees, a flat screen TV with Comcast and Roku, and a spacious, rec room equipped with a large screen TV, toys, games and extra beds that is ideal for older children or teenagers. The rec room can also be used as a family suite, with sleeping for up to 8, including 2 sets of twin bunk beds. We just added central air conditioning to keep the house cool on hot days. The dining table extends to seat 10-12 adults, with additional seating at the adjacent island bar in the kitchen.
